Death in Vegas | Dead Elvis

Picked by Nick

In the mid-90s, as grunge lost its grip, electronica began to rise. Artists like The Chemical Brothers and Prodigy infused electronic music with a darker, edgier feel, defining the genre's signature sound. But Death in Vegas, an English duo, stood out by crafting electronica for those who weren’t typically fans of the genre. Their 1998 album Dead Elvis blended live instruments with electronic beats, producing a uniquely diverse sound where no two tracks are alike—from eerie ambient pieces to rock-meets-techno fusions. Despite its eclecticism, Dead Elvis flows effortlessly and remains just as captivating today as it was then.

Fink | Beauty In Your Wake

Picked by Nathan

Fink's music has definitely made waves in the Hi-Fi world, with tracks like Trouble’s What You’re In earning a spot in many audiophiles' top demo lists. His latest record, Beauty In Your Wake certainly lives up to this legacy - recorded and produced in a newly converted chapel in a tiny Cornish village, the album sounds phenomenal on a good set of speakers. If you come and have a Hi-Fi demo in the shop, I will almost certainly play you a track from this album! Blending musical influences from Nick Drake, Justin Vernon, and maybe even with hints of Radiohead(!), the album is simultaneously both incredibly relaxing and musically captivating, making it a very enjoyable listen.

For me, British Steel marks the moment when Judas Priest truly solidified their sound. Although I wasn't initially a fan—earlier albums like Sin After Sin and Stained Class had their moments—it felt as though they were leading up to something greater. British Steel completely changed my perspective. Its remarkable balance of diversity and consistency sets it apart from their peers and, for me, stands as their finest work. This album is not only a defining moment in the band's career but also a cornerstone in metal history, making it essential for any serious metal-lover’s collection.

Joe Pass | For Django

Picked by Nick

This record delivers stunning sound on both sides, showcasing killer jazz guitar trio work. As well as displaying incredible musical talent, For Django is an impressively well recorded and pressed record. Having listened to many early jazz guitar records by legends like Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, and Grant Green, this one stands out as one of the best-sounding. The all-tube, live-in-studio recording brings out a natural, rich, and dynamic sound, with tight, clear bass—a rare treat for those with a good Hi-Fi. The record plays quietly, but the sound is truly hard to fault!
